Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Construction - New Construction Estimating Manager, the New Construction Estimator will create estimates for New Construction bids.

Job Functions

  • Model project job sites using design skills.
  • Assist with solving design challenges on job sites.
  • Transfer plans from hard copy to software programs.
  • Finalize site plans for Ace Asphalt’s Project Manager and customer use.
  • Perform plan take-offs and related costs/hours.

Skills / Requirements


  • 2+ years of related experience in Estimating



  • High school diploma required, degree in Construction, Engineering or related field highly desired.
  • Must be able to read plans proficiently (Civil, Architectural, Structural)
  • Understand quantity take-offs
  • Understand soils reports and interpret requirements
  • Understand earthwork/paving production rates as well as putting together appropriate resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, teams, managers, supervisors, and vendors
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Understand business and industry technology
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Must be able to work well with others in a team atmosphere
  • Knowledge of cost control systems, computerized estimating, quantity takeoff and scheduling programs
  • Ability to work with Sr. Management, accounting, payroll and field personnel
  • Be customer focused, willing to work nights and weekends when needed and be committed to supporting the company’s safety program
  • MS Office and Sales software proficiency
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project skills required
  • Must be able to pass drug test
  • Clean driving record
  • This position requires the ability to prioritize, organize, and manage one's schedule with minimal supervision
  • Extensive vehicle travel may be required for the position
  • Time may be required between office and the job site
  • Occasionally works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold conditions
