Job Description

Job Summary:

Responsible for preparing, fueling, and servicing all equipment. Preparing for the next day’s work by loading and unloading trailers with proper equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Works in a safety sensitive position in and around heavy construction equipment.
  • Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as other equipment, other workers and falling objects.
  • Maintains a clean job site, pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Performs skilled and unskilled work involving strenuous tasks often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Daily fueling of yard equipment.
  • Perform daily operator checks and services of all equipment.
  • Wash and fuel trucks.
  • Re-fill all propane bottles.
  • Load and unload trailers and equipment.
  • Correctly set – up equipment as scheduled by asphalt and seal coatings.
  • Re-fill tankers, sealing machines, tack machines, and slurry equipment with proper amount and type of material.
  • Accurately annotate work orders, fuel logs, and time sheets.
  • Assist with the maintenance, cleanliness, and appearance of the yard.
  • Work in extreme outside weather conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessary

  • Meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. Ready and working at start of shift.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy highway construction work.
  • Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
  • Takes initiative – always looks for better, smarter and more efficient ways to work
  • Provides solutions to problems.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to utilize the available time to organize, and complete work within given deadlines.
  • Valid driver license and dependable transportation.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Minimum 40 hours per week with overtime as needed.
  • Some weekend and night work required depending on job requirements.
  • Hearing sufficient for being aware of back-up alarms, hearing equipment and for normal conversations.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 75 pounds, walk, climb, stand, bend and stoop for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements and adhere to applicable safety policies.
  • Must be able to complete work tasks under various weather conditions including heat in excess of 100 degrees.
  • Acceptable level of correctable vision for Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral and Depth Perception.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, steel toe boots, seat belt, gloves, etc.
  • Use of both arms and legs required.
